Re: Hardware recommendation
My take is it will be expensive if you want to jump right into it... I'd play around with webcams or SLR (if you have one) to get a feel for it because it will become a very expensive learning curve. 1. monochrome cmos is most prefered with global shutter, anything in that combination will be very e...

Re: Tips for scanning
I didn't get much success out of my 7d in live view so i gave up on that idea... and it doesn't work on 5 which is fine as buying 2x the camera body and lenses is out of the question. It's a fine tool just to play with to get an idea how the system work but it's not ideal as mentioned. My c1 does th...

Re: Camera Resolution Test
Since I had a bad experience with the PointGrey driver (you cannot use two cameras within Daivd 5), you should check the software compatibility with the manufacturer if you intend you use two cameras. My 2ct. Jeff The Tech at ZWO informed me it detected multiple cameras using the directdraw drivers...

Re: Projecting an SLS system: Scanning precision
you'll need to hold the aperture switch and pull it off while it's held in. and then cover the contact with electrical tape so it doesn't go back when putting it back on. It's annoying and it's half the reason i gave up on the canon setup, aside for the expensive lenses i have david5 now which doesn...

Re: Oteck's Arca swiss style setup
New lens came in for the new camera, this thing is huge!
The lens is a pentax 1.0 8-48mm so it has a nice wide angle range, the only issue is it has a meter lenght minimal focus distance so it will need some spacers in the 0.7mm.

Re: Camera Resolution Test
One more thing that can effect the FPS throughput. Make sure the "prevent processor idle state" setting in the advanced settings is on. It's on, one of the first thing I did when my camera kept hanging up. Theres another thing that makes me wonder, does the app make use of all the cores?

Re: Camera Resolution Test
One other note: Most cameras sold for astronomy don't have an IR filter over the sensor. This could be contributing to your surface roughness. I may look into an IR/UV block filter and hope it smooth out the roughness and get the surface like the 120mm scan. This surface should be matte and not rea...

Re: Tips for scanning
What resolution are you getting from live view? looking closely it seems very low. Also note that video coming from that form is compressed so it's not the best quality. You can probably try the hdmi feed but you need the magiclantern hack to get the clean progressive output.

Re: Camera Resolution Test
I did play with high speed 60fps but it's too fast that david can't calibrate it and i had to drop the resolution quite abit to get there. at 800x600 it was quick so thats why i figured the cpu is the bottleneck. There is a faster pc I can use but that means taking my gaming rig to the work shop and...
