Shining 3D Scanner Question

Post by ganuv30 »

HI,

I own a shining 3d dental scanner, and I was wondering if I can find a program that can be used with this scanner for scanning regular object's besides the default intraoral scan program?

Getting to your question, I once had a friend tried to scan a 30 cm object with an intraoral scanner.
As I supposed, it was not good for big stuff.
It missed the overall shape, being good ony for small details.

Like measuring a wall lenght with a micrometer or a caliper.

I suppose that dental scanner are designed to scan an object automatically by one click and you can't control scanning process and ...
I think he is asking if he can bypass this automatic scanning process and use his hardware to scan other small objects with dimension smaller than 100mm, like jewellery and ...

surely you can't use a dental scanner for scanning a 1 meter object, unless you make some changes on hardware too.

I managed to scan a few items with the dental program, but it is extremely difficult to catch full items. It's a shame to buy another $10K+ scanner, I'm pretty sure that there might be another solution for using this scanner for scanning regular objects
