a quick scan for reverse engineering 😎.
it is a drive gear wheel for an excavator.

my new Reverse Engineering case 😎.
it is an Aluminum part with huge corrosion.
I redesign it for making patterns for AL casting.

My new scan, a double suction impeller 😎
450mm diameter

This was one of the best impeller I've scanned so far. Very accurate machining and very beautiful casting.
all deep areas are captured successfully and the reverse engineering was satisfying.
FlexScan Impeller Scan 2.jpg

I scanned it from about 1.2 meter distance, and you can see the surface details on my scan.

and let's take a look on the accuracy on this scan 😎😎
FlexScan Impeller Scan 4.jpg
on the original part, I read this diameter for about 264.98 on one side and 264.99 on the other side, using my digital caliper.
and you can see the related numbers on my scan. The difference is less than 0.01mm~0.02mm.
and this is not accidental numbers. If it was accidental, it should not been repeated in the diameter of both sides.

This is the accuracy that we can get from our DIY Professional 3D Scanners 😎

New Reverse Engineering project 😍😎
it is a gearbox cap.

I got excellent accuracy on this part. 0.01mm on machined diameters and also for positioning pins.

and this is the CAD design and also the CNC milling part, for casting pattern (casting mold)

New scan and Reverse Engineering: Oil cartel 😍😎
This is big 1.3 meter Aluminum item, it was corroded heavily.

its surface was so dirty and greasy, and there was no time to clean it.
I only applied talcum powder on it (+ small amount of ethanol).
but I needed accurate position of the hole on this part. so before scanning, the holes were cleaned perfectly.

This was a big object and my cameras are high resolution, so if I scan it at max resolution, then the PC get slow and the final mesh will be so heavy.
in this case, I used CameraResolutionDecimation option in the software to reduce pixel density of the cameras. This option reduce Cameras pixel density, almost without losing any of the details on the scans and increase processing speed. so by using this option, I scanned the object very quickly, and it saved all scans details and holes position for me.

Scanned in Modified version of FlexScan3D and Reverse Engineered in CATIA
Cameras: Daheng 6.3MP (with Decimated Resolution down to 50%)
Projector: Casio Laser Projector HD resolution
Total Scan time: less than 25 minutes
