Tonight, another scanner joined the competition to create a "3D enfilade of monuments" - a handheld laser Scanform

All five scans shown in the picture are available here (112Mb)

P.S. The RV scan is greatly simplified (I got the original STL 3.5 GB, because I scanned on the 4th zone and collected with a resolution of 20 microns)

Can you tell if it's this scanner or a DIY version?
I saw an interesting project using daheng cameras for making a DIY laser scanner.
It would be nice to introduce it here.

Hi madin
Scanform is not a DIY kit. it is an industrial hand held laser scanner from Russia. Its best achievable accuracy is about 0.1mm in 500mm dimension, and it is for scanning large objects, it can't provide high detail scans as well as SLS scanners. it is several times weaker than SLS scanners in capturing high detail objects, but it is normal for a laser hand held scanner. we can't expect more.
Some of my clients has Scanform too. I saw its scan results. For big objects the result is very satisfying. Also its price is not low. As I remember it was more than $4K.
I should mention that it is able to scan shiny objects very well, like other laser scanners.

About your second sentence about Daheng cameras and DIY laser scanner, It is based on another Russian platform, with name of VT.
VT is a Russian platform but it is very row and low level, even Russian people are not very interested in VT software. Some of my Russian clients have tested it. The result was not satisfying at all.
Also its price is not low. it is more expensive than RV and FlexScan3D, and it doesn't work with all Daheng cameras. specially for hand held scanner, it use high frame rate low resolution Daheng cameras.
Also it has very weak support. It is something like a personal project, it is not supported by a company.

We know very well that your project is the best in the world.

a proverb in Persian says: When is hearing the same as seeing and experiencing?
hey madin, let's finish our argue πŸ˜…β€οΈ
Scanform is a good scanner for large objects.
but for VT, lets see Mr. OBNRacerMan's idea too. VT is really a weak software. it is completely row. Rest assured, if 1% was good, Mr. OBNRacerMan should have it too.

Great scans, your work is so inspiring. I have a scan question and I would really appreciate your suggestion on how to go about this. I'm trying to figure out how to 3d scan clay models and import them for rigging / animating and I found these videos on YouTube video https://youtu.be/SnoWY4oXAEc and https://youtu.be/x-yKs_kKE1w and it seems like the exact same idea was used here however the result does seem very nice, I was wondering if anyone here could figure out what seems off with these clay scans and how the process could be improved for better end results.
Hope to get some response.

Hi. Since I don't do animation, I can't help answering your questions. In any case, a scan of something "as is" is unsuitable for direct use in other projects. Almost always you need to do simplification and retopology.

Thanks for replying. Can you explain in details what this part means exactly just so I can have a better idea on how to go about this.

In my work, I use scans only as a form on which I make new models.
In this case, they asked to change the attachment points and make two identical earrings (and then another ring to go with them)

And here it was necessary to make the most similar "mirror" copy instead of the lost earring.

I work in 3dsmax, and, unfortunately, I can’t really tell you about the modeling technique .. I just do it.

What type of scanner do you use?
