I scanned a small 3mm drill bit as an example for macro 3D Scanning.
Total scan time, excluding calibration process, was about 4 minutes.
The drill bit is extremely shiny and it has sharp edges, so before scanning process, I sprayed it with whitening powder.
Scan was done on Arisa 2-axis turntable automatically.
The scan was done using 6.3MP cameras and 800x600 projector.

I used your suggested projector modification for macro scanning and play around with my camera lens, thank you for the tip!

I think that is the first 3D scanned stink bug in history. You should definitely put that on Thingaverse.

I also scanned a real 15mm beetle some months ago. You can find more details about this scan in my Telegram group (https://t.me/DIY_3D_Scanner) between elder posts.
This scan was done with 6.3MP cameras and a HD projector, in Modified Version of FlexScan3D software.
Also I used my two axis turntable for automation. The whole of the scan process was done only by running a single scan script.
This is an old scan and in that time I didn't had suitable lenses for macro scanning. Surely with HS (Hardware Triggering and Sync) and better lenses, the scan quality will be better.
I will provide a full demo about this scan soon.
That is pretty epic! I was thinking my bug scans were good, but when I saw yours, ...oh man!
I don't even need to do macro scanning for my jobs, but these just make me want to dig deeper into this nevertheless.

Definitely inspirational. The part I don't understand, is how do you get the bug to agree to be scanned and hold still for that long?
