Macro Scanning in Modified FlexScan3D

Post by greenskynet »

in this topic I share some of my macro scans, which I do with my DIY scanner, using Modified version of FlexScan3D.
Macro Scanning is a particular field in 3D scanning that need more special considerations.
The Modified version of FlexScan3D overcomes super macro scans even with conventional equipment.

next Macro scan: Acacia fruit ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜
it is like a leaf, but actually it is a fruit, containing several seeds in the pod.

Besides small details, this item was challenging to 3D scan due to its low thickness. its total thickness was less than 1mm (about 0.5mm).
it was scanned using my DIY 3D Scanner, in "Modified Version of FlexScan3D", using 6.3MP cameras.
For this scan I used my DIY 2-axis turntable, for automatic calibration and scanning process.

Macro scan: Pine Fruit ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ˜.

it is less than a finger, and it has many deep features that make it a little challenging to 3D Scan, but my DIY scanner overcame this scan very well as always ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜

The detail is excellent. Was this done with a modified pf60 projector? How do did you get the projection small enough and the cameras close enough to scan this small?
I haven't done macro scanning yet but am very curious.

The projector is my Casio projector with my modifications. I did huge modifications on it to solve many problems, like heatsinck and focus and ...

Ailanthus (Tree Of Heaven) Seed ๐Ÿ˜.

This seed is very thin and light weight, it flies with every little wind.

look at the fine details on the scan! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

It was very delicate. The thickness may be less than 0.1mm.

I scanned it completely in both side. it is very challenging for such this thin small items!
