Hello,
couldn't find a post about this question, so far. So I´m creating one. If there is one, I`ll be happy if you send me a link.
I wanted to ask: Which 3D Scanner would you recommend, if my plan was to scan entire vehicles in order to tu use the files to create scale models of these vehicles. Accuracy is not the biggest concern, since I intend to turn several meter long objects (So far mostly vintage tractors) into small scale models (mostle 1:87 scale) to use them ase Model train accessories.
What machine would be useful for a beginner?
Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback.
Marius

Re: Which scanner can be used to scan an entire vehicle?
Hi. You might want to consider mobile 3D scanners like the Revopoint Miraco Plus or Shining Einstar Vega. There's a YouTube video about scanning a car body using the Miraco Plus and its included metrology rulers and coded markers, with a preliminary photogrammetric survey of these markers also performed using this scanner.
There are also (in some ways) even more convenient (but also much more expensive) solutions with laser scanning and control of the scanner's position using an external tracker - for example, Revopoint TrackIt (the presence of markers on the car body is not required, but, nevertheless, it is advisable to have several markers attached)
P.S. I have a Miraco Plus, but my tasks weren't particularly suited to large-scale parts, so I've never personally tried working with this expansion kit, with my other scanners - Revopoint MetroX and Shihing Einstar RockIt, I also did not try to scan anything more than half a meter.

Hello,
thanks a lot for your detailed response!!!! Thats very helpful. Will look into the models you suggested!
My so far favorite scanner I discovered during my research was the Shining Einstar 2. A comparebly cheap model. Do you have any thoughts on that one?

Re: Which scanner can be used to scan an entire vehicle?
When I was choosing between the newest Einstar 2 and RockIt, (besides the lack of a cross-line laser mode on the E2), I noticed that only RockIt can scan in laser mode without markers (and for me, this is a very interesting feature), so I chose RockIt (and for the same reason, I will get rid of the Revopoint MetroX, which has become unnecessary for me - it cannot work wirelessly, and even its newer versions of the "Y" series, with a WiFi module, require a power cable ... it also cannot scan with lasers without markers)

Ok. That means if I want to scan with laser mode, I have to glue markers to the object...?
To scan an entire vehicle i`d use the IR infra red mode, wouldn`t I?

Markers are definitely needed for the Einstar2's laser mode. However, it doesn't yet have a fast cross-line scanning mode (and parallel line mode is always slower, although it's considered to provide better accuracy).
