Re: Pointgrey Grasshopper3 3.2 MP
Thanks.
When you first installed the two cameras, were they immediately available in David 5 ?
I just made a quick test with the GH4 in fullhd and one PointGrey.
The GH4 provides a smoother surface, less line artifacts.
The PointGrey scan is sharper on the details (probably because of the 2018 x 1536 resolution)
The FPS of the GH4 in David is 60 fps, but it actually scans slower (Maximum pattern holding time: 300) then the PointGrey which is at 30 fpd (but Maximum pattern holding time of 150).
One screenshot with the PointGrey with Minolta 50 mm macro lens at 1 meter from the 60mm calibration.
I will keep trying a little ( annd hoping to get an answer from PointGrey). If unsuccessful, I will try to sell them and go the IS road or two full DSLR.
How frustrating....

Re: Pointgrey Grasshopper3 3.2 MP
While waiting for an answer from PointGrey, I decided to try to use David 5 with two different cameras and two different resolutions.
PointGrey : 2048 x 1536 (Minolta 50 mm macro)
GH4: 1920 x 1080 (12-35 VARIO lens)
David can be very frustrating but also very amazing.
Photos,stereo extended mode scan
Fusion
Side by side (Turquoise is PointGrey, brown is GH4)
Overlapping after alignment
Combined (no fusion)
Crazy setup with one camera near panel and the other one far back.

Bad news for me:
Answer from PointGrey:
"I understand this will cause issues with your David software. Unless they have another interface like a USB3 Vision interface or a Point Grey wrapper to work with the camera, I do not believe there is a solution we can offer you at the moment for multiple cameras in their software."

I Jeff,
After I installed the camera driver, The camera's were available right away. When my computer updated to windows 10 anniversary, David didn't see the cameras untill anniversary was later updated. Now its all good with David 5.0.7

Re: Pointgrey Grasshopper3 3.2 MP
Thanks.
I guess I am out of luck.
Since ImagingSource has the same camera using the same Sony chip (DMK 33UX252, identical resolution and FPS), if the price is not too high, I will try to sell one of the PointGrey and purchase that one.

I think your problem is that that is not a compatible ZipTie. Try upgrading the ZipTie to the latest version and see if that solves your problem.Curiousjeff wrote:While waiting for an answer from PointGrey, I decided to try to use David 5 with two different cameras and two different resolutions.

Re: Pointgrey Grasshopper3 3.2 MP
No comments on the Ziptie, My long hours with David have destroyed my sens of humour...
A question for Basler and Imaging Source Industrial camera users:
With one PointGrey camera driver (directshow) directly in David, I can set YUY2 instead of RGB24. This increases the capture frame rate from 20 fps to 32 fps. I can then set the Maximum Pattern holding time to 150 in David which gives me a scan time (patterns display time only) of about 4 seconds.
Do you have similar or better fps and scan time with David ? Can you also set YUY2 ?
Normally, I don't care about a few seconds, but I am looking at medical applications where the subject is breathing and creates motion.

Re: Pointgrey Grasshopper3 3.2 MP
I have better scan times with Imaging Source DMK 23UX236 (same as David Cam 4), by feeling it is around 2sec at high quality, max. 3sec. If I remember right, at 1920x1200 it captures at 54fps. But it has rolling shutter. It is not RGB24 but some Grayscale protocol, don't know the exact name. There is also the choice between 8bit and 16bit ( the cam supports 12bit grayscale), but the 16bit mode didn't work and it always resets to 8bit.

Re: Pointgrey Grasshopper3 3.2 MP
Thanks.
If I don't find a solution shortly, I will sell one Point grey and purchase one DMK 33UX252.
I don't know if the Point Grey is slower since it's resolution is 50% more. It could also be due to some other hardware issue.
Anyway, the Imaging Source sounds good.
