I adjusted the PointGrey from 2048 x 1536 to 1920 x 1080.

The frame rate jumped from 34 fps to 60 fps.

I guess its a bandwidth limitation.

Question:

I have the impression the 2048 x 1536 / 121 fps /Global shutter cameras are nearly the same price as the 1920 x 1080 cameras.

Is there a reason not to go with the higher resolution models ?

I think more resolution at same sensor size gives you smaller pixels and by that less sensitivity. so if you have to stop down your lens for higher depth of sharpness and/or if you scan large areas where the projection is darker, you will have more noise.
another point might be that with really large resolutions, data become so large, that processing them takes forever.
at least for me, camera resolution is not the limiting factor, but projection quality, depth of sharpness and probably experience :-P

Yes, there are differences:

Sony IMX252 (2064 (H) × 1544 (V) approx. 3.19M pixels, 3.45 μm : Sensitivity: 915 mV

Sony IMX174 (1920 (H) × 1200 (V) approx. 2.3M pixels, 5.86 μm : Sensitivity: 850 mV

I guess I will lose 8% sensitivity. I can live with that, if other inconvenience don't show up.

Except for the problem with diamond shape pixel, I am still not sure of the influence of the projector.

For example, Micr0 upgraded from Optima to the LG full hd, but I have never clearly heard from him if this made a big difference.

Yes it did. However the LG is a square pixel projector so i don't know how much tath effected the results. I did post comparison pictures in the old forum if anyone cares to find them.
