3D capture stage (turntable) on David SW

Hello,

I get up using the Sprout G2 for 3D scanning (buggy USB3 controller and my hi-res cameras freezing). But I would like to use the turnatble for my hi-res setup.

Well, I thought it would be easy, but it is not or I do something wrong.

So I'm trying to install the 3D capture stage driver and David5/HP plugin for the turntable to work.

Driver itself do not get installed unless you copy the c:\system.sav\util\hpdc.exe which handles the installation. Then the driver showed up right.

But even when I copied all the setup and setting files from the Sprout HP 3D scan install folder, from logs I see that when I click connect turntable it is trying to load up the plugin for the TT1 and not the 3D capture stage.

So I decided to switch the names of the plugins so I made sure it's loading the right plugin.

Now in logs I can see the difference:
Error - 3dCaptureStage - Could not connect to turntable (bb0601882142020b)

The turntable still refuse to connect. Any ideas?

Did anyone attempted the same? I mean it's only logical to use the $300 tunrtable that has 2 rotation axis (only switchable) instead of the crappy TT1 that cost 1000Eur...

The turntable might be dependent on the sprout service...then it would be complicated.

Any ideas are appreciated.

If I read this correctly, as of V5 David won't work with any turntable but the TT!. Pissed many of us off.

No, You are wrong. In David v 5.2 they added support for “3D capture stage” which is similar to TT-1 but has another rotational axis for tilt and cost significantly less (around $300).

This is not widely known because it is intended for HP Sprout computers!

It is just not that straightforward as on the normal install the “3d capture plugin” is not activated. And on the Sprout David install the TT-1 plugin is not activated.

Do someone remember how the David plugins were activate when there still was such an option?

Hi Shefajs,

Did you get David working with your capture stage?

From what I have read on here when people have posted the new releases of David, I noticed that in one of the 5.x updates they had added support for the capture stage, and on another one they had fixed bugs in it... I have also seen reviews of the G2 Sprout and the Capture stage running, as well as noticed it mentioned on the HP site (which is not really clear on anything with the Sprout)

Did you download HP3DScan5 from the Sprout marketplace app download store? If so, was it licence free (Able to save scans etc)

I have a Sprout Pro (Pre G2) which I am kind of attached to, and would love to get the Capture Stage working in HP3DScan5 and ideally with the HP Sprout selected as the "Setup", if so, I would gladly buy the software.

But am tempted to buy a HP Sprout Pro G2 if the HP3DScan5 software is still free to download in the Sprout App Store, and licence free, and the Capture Stage I already have could work with it.

As this machine seems to be a bit of an enigma, and having just called HP Support to ask them these questions and they really did not know what a sprout was, let alone HP3DScan5, as well as posting in their "support community" and noticing that out of 30 questions since March, only two have been answered, I think us Sprout, HPCaptureStage, and HP3DScan5 users are left a little unsupported.

The machine is a bit of a niche market, so even in 3D Scanning forums like this, there is unlikely to be many people able to support others in my position with a HP Sprout and wanting to get David5/HP3DScan5 working on a Sprout.

Although I am finding this forum really interesting on the general subject of 3D Scanning, so will continue reading posts here, as well as hopefully contributing in time, but I have made a facebook group for the HPSprout, in the hope of fishing for users, who might be able to help one another.

I hope this does not break any rules, but the web address to the facebook group is..

I'm fine with it. The main purpose here is to provide help and support.
