Hello,
i got a used jAi GO-5000M-USB für 120€. i really dont know if this was a good deal or if this camera is suitable for structured light scanning.

Would maybe someone take a look and guess how the performance is going to be and if this was a good deal?

Thanks and Happy new year,

At first look, a good option. However, a little more difficult with the selection of a lens for such a matrix size. you need something like this one already.
Also an unknown (for me) matrix producer...

Yeah im excited :) I really cant find a price online though. I found a price for the jAi go-5000m with ethernet connection for 715$. So i hope this is somewhat near to the actual retail price of this unit.

Do you really need a high resolution camera?
Of those I personally tested, I can advise this (yes, the matrix is not 1 ", but only 1 / 1.8"), but this Sony IMX178 is one of the most sensitive, low-noise, fast enough and, at the same time, quite inexpensive.
There are also cameras on an even more sensitive IMX385 sensor (but, unfortunately, they are only color, which is not very good)
The total price for two cameras on the IMX178 (like mine) is about 680USD (plus 2x 85USD lenses), and I'm quite pleased with the quality of the scans and the speed in maximum resolution.

I think he said he got it for €120 which sounds like a great deal. if you have trouble finding good lenses for that sensor size you can get a c-mount to Nikon or Canon bayonet adapter and then you can use old SLR lens. The manual film camera lenses are cheap on eBay and very high resolution.

I definitely do not need such a high resolution. half of it would be fine. But i thought the price was quite good and maybe this would be a viable low budget solution. What camera models with the IMX178 would you recommend? I also bought a TT1 turntable for 475€ So im really looking into the two camera setup in the future.

Yes, I didn’t notice that the camera was already purchased...

However, it should be noted that selecting a lens from a film camera can be difficult, since a 35mm lens with a half-smaller matrix will work like, for example, 55mm (and this, in my opinion, is too much for a scanner)

Great point, i have to use wide angle lenses with such a setup. In the past i used a 25mm lense which was exactly enough to scan what i wanted.
If the Camera is not going to work i will sell it again.
In this case which IMX178 Camera would you recommend?

I gave the above link to AliExpress (however, it may be more profitable for you to buy a similar "branded" camera, for example, Basler - acA3088-57um - Basler ace) given that it should be even better in terms of performance due to which has a depth of not 8 bits (like my camera), but 10-12 - which should have a very positive effect on working with objects that have a large spread in detail brightness.
P.S. I don’t know why the Chinese camera has 8bit (apparently several other electronic components were used)
