Kinect 360 vs. Primesense Carmine 1.09 ?

Hello,

I have a question about the Sensor-Cams:

Is it worth switching from Kinect 360 to Primesense 1.09 ?
Guess version 1.09 is the least that should work with, because of the technical details (I have read that in Primesense Carmine 1.08 the measurement distance is announced from 0,8 to 3,5 m, and Average depth resolution is 1,2 cm at 30 fps. Carmine 1.09 is designed for close range measurements between 0,35 and 1,4 m and has an average depth resolution of about 0,5 cm).

But, is the Primesense Carmine 1.09 really that better than the Kinect 360 ?

Hope anyone has made experience with Carmine 1.09 or better with both types.
Thanks a lot for all help !

I have a Kinect 360 for xBox (with a separate power supply that allows you to connect it to a computer) - and precisely because it is unable to capture objects near it, it has a very poor resolution.
So if you need to scan from a closer distance - then 1.09, I think, will give a much better result.
Indeed, thanks to the modified optical system, this will help to capture more details at close range even without changing the overall resolution of the 3D capture module (and at 1.09, according to rumors, it is slightly larger than that of the Kinect 360).

P.S. I also have Intel Realsense D415 - it has a fairly good 3D resolution, but there are problems with scanning closer than 0.1-0.15m (in addition, there is another technology that scans poorly in complete darkness (which Kinect does well))

It seems that the Realsense D415 has much better technical data as the kinect or the Carmine.
... Do you know if the Intel Realsense D415 (or better, the D435) works with Skanect Software? If not, what Software do you use with your D415?

Thanks a lot in advance...

Unfortunately, I only know two programs that support Intel RealSense 4th series (D415 / 435 / 435i), this is free (but very primitive LipScan from the Windows Store) and also paid RecFusion (there is also RecFusion Pro - which supports multiple scanning simultaneously devices). RecFusion can also work with Kinect 360 (and many other scanners).
P.S. I also tried a trial version of ArtecStudio14 - but there is still Intel support only up to the 3rd series ...
Here I made a brief comparison.

Please note that LipScan works ONLY with 4th Generation RealSense.

I guess I will try the D415 in combine with RecFusion.
... the D415 has no Power-cable, it is Power over USB, right?

Yes it is - there is only one USB Type C cable used

So OBN RacerMan,
thank you very much for your really friendly and helpful posts ! Great to know that there are still people out there that want to help.
Guess I buy these components now and hide between chair and computer for a few days :-))

Have a good time and thanks really a lot again !!
