Need advice on camera for SLS (about 350€ to spend ;-)

Hi,
I am currently using a DIY setup consisting of a Kurokesu C1 and a NEC V260X with HP Scan 5.2. While I can produce fairly good results, I would like to invest to improve.
I would start with a better camera (mono chrome since I do not do textures) and lens and have about 300-400€ to spend.
Can anyone recommend a piece of hardware (preferably available in Europe) in that price range?
